Snowmass 2001
The Future of High Energy Physics
BULLETIN
June 28, 2001
The level of interest expressed in Snowmass 2001 has been overwhelming. We expect about 1000 participants and are looking forward to an exceptionally productive Summer Study. Important arrival information may be found in this Bulletin; opening and plenary sessions are planned for Sunday and Monday, July 1 and 2. Working group organization activities will begin on Tuesday, July 3.
ORGANIZATION
The Summer Study will follow the format of the successful series of Summer Studies undertaken by the DPF in the 1980's to evaluate the future course of the U. S. high-energy physics program. These Snowmass Summer Studies proved invaluable in drawing the high-energy physics community together, and it is our hope that Snowmass 2001 will have the same effect in developing a coherent plan for the longer-term future for the U.S. high-energy physics program in the context of the international program. The Summer Study will start with two days of plenary talks. After that, the participants will participate in working groups and subgroups, which will be led by one or more conveners. These conveners will summarize the findings of their respective working groups in the final plenary sessions on Thursday and Friday, July 19 and 20. Tentative plans and schedules for some of the working groups are available on the Snowmass 2001 home page on the Web at:
http://www.snowmass2001.org

TRANSPORTATION
Access by Air
Snowmass Village is a mountain resort located at an altitude of nearly 3,000 m in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, accessible via Denver's International Airport with connecting flights directly into the Aspen Airport, some four miles from the Village. If you prefer, you may fly into Denver and then take a shuttle bus to the Aspen Airport.
From Denver, take Colorado Mountain Express, telephone 800-222-2112. In June a van departs daily at 12:00 noon and 3:00 p.m.; in July vans depart at 12:00 noon, 3:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m. The cost is $100 each way. Reservations should be made 48 hours in advance and prepaid. It takes approximately 4 hours for the trip with two 10-15 minute stops along the way (Vail and Glenwood Springs). Unless there are at least five people going to the same location in Snowmass, the van will make its last stop at the Aspen Airport.
From Aspen Airport, Colorado Mountain Express offers a curbside service and meets all incoming flights.
